Peaches - One of our greatest success stories!

In the beginning days of my career as a volunteer for a Chihuahua rescue I was called and asked if I could take this crazy chihuahua called Peaches. She she had been badly abused. (Her owner kicked her into the wall) She was a fear biter. Of course I said yes. I met the other volunteer in Cinncy. She told me that Peaches should really be named Psycho and we laughed a bit. Peaches was absolutely crazy...Crazy with fear. The other volunteer wrapped her in a blanket and handed Peaches over to me. With out the blanket she would have tore our hands off. I quickly put her in a crate and took her home.

Peaches pretty much stayed in or near the crate only coming out for food and water. I didn't push the issue with her. A couple days later Peaches and I went to the vet where we discovered Peaches had severe brain damage and was blind. She had tremors so bad she looked like she had Parkinson's. She often lost her balance and fell. Her little bones had been broken several times and healed improperly. The vet said we could take her to a specialist but she didn't think there was much that could be done for Peaches. So I took her home to see what I could do.

I worked daily with Peaches. Soon she was okay with me touching her. Finally one day she let me pick her up! I was so happy I cried! Her next step was to give me kisses. After a while she would come to be held give kisses and lay her little head on my shoulder. However Peaches would let no one else near her.

Then one day my Granddaughter Katie came to visit. Peaches barked and carried on as usual. After three days of this Peaches decided not to bark at Katie. Next thing I know Katie is walking around holding Peaches. I was in shock!

Well to make a long story short Peaches finally accepted people coming into the house. She let some people touch her and others even got to hold her. She was happy and content. Some days she would wonder from her room into the living room and curl up on my lap. Life continued like this for a couple years.

Recently though Peaches began having extreme difficulty standing and keeping her balance. Her shaking became so bad she could barely eat. I knew it was her time to say goodbye and my heart was breaking. Some how Peaches found the energy to crawl to the front of her crate to me. Her little legs were scrapped and red from the effort.

I held her close and kissed her good bye. Peaches has pasted over the Rainbow Bridge. She was a amazing little girl and is now free to frolic and play as she should have been here on earth.

The Start Of Our Blog!!!

I decided to start up a blog as a way to get our rescue known and to tell you a litlle about ourselves.

Because of our love of bug-eyed and massive eared Chihuahuas we started Chihuahuas Hope Animal Rescue, Transport, and Sanctuary to stop Chihuahuas and other small animals from being euthanized needlessly, discarded or abused.

We are comitted to finding our precious Chi's the perfect families and making everyones lives better!
